With the “bomb cyclone” battering the Hudson Valley, Cuomo was forced to declare the State of Emergency in New York City, Westchester and Long Island, noting that “this is not a normal storm.”

Metro-North is reporting delays on all three Hudson Valley lines flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport have been temporarily suspended due to high winds.

Cuomo - and local governments - have asked that area residents keep clear of all roadways as crews continue attempting to clear snow amidst wind gusts nearing 40 mph. The governor warned that the storm is only expected to increase in strength as the day goes on.

“Snow is one thing. We can handle snow. It’s snow plus the wind which is going to cause the trouble today,” he said. “The situation is going to get worse as the day goes on.”

The evening commute is also expected to be a dangerous one, with snow continuing until early evening and strong, gusty winds with the potential to cause power outages.

Metro-North reported at 11:45 a.m. delays of 30 minutes on the Harlem and New Haven lines and said Hudson Line northbound train service is not making station stops at Riverdale, Ludlow, Glenwood, and Greystone due to downed trees and a switch failure.
